The Hunt for Meaning

In this section, I'd briefly like to discuss the things that I find to give me meaning in my life. I believed myself that humans in all cases act the way that they do out of a selfish desire. However, I now don't see this as a particularly substantive argument, because if you define any human action to be the consequence of pleasure-seeking motives, the nuance, independence, and adventurous glory is reduced to nil: there is no virtue, there is no vice; there is no noble action; there is no ignoble habit; there is no credit to be claimed for one's achievements, there is no regret to be felt for one's misdeeds. Meaning arises entirely out of our sense of control over our decisions, and out of a deep-rooted drive to bring order in the world around us.

I wish to take grave responsibility upon my shoulders, to claim credit for my achievements, and to feel remorse for my sins. I wish to embark upon daring adventures that I know to lead me to meaningful treasure, rather than empty fullness (what I mean is a sense of faux satisfaction, that displaces the room typically filled satisfaction, but one that itself carries no weight or importance). I wish to stand up against unfair tyranny, if such ever does arise in my life, and to have the courage and stalwart persistence to never leave the side of the dreams that I know to be valuable.
