The San Francisco Bay Area

1. Location: The Bay Area is located in central California. The bay area is also home to Silicon Valley. The west border is the Pacific Ocean. It is 6,984 sq. miles.
2.Place:The Bay Area contains 9 counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara,Solano, and Sonoma. It is also home to approximately 7.44 million people. The major cities are San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland. It also has lots of high-tech companies in the Silicon Valley. It has two world famous universities, Stanford University and University of California, Berkley.
3.The coastal climate is typically cool and foggy. In other areas it is generally mild. From November to mid March, there are winter storms that last several days, but are not very damaging. In rural areas, some people farm.
4.Movement:There are three international airports, SFO, SJC, OAK. There are also trains such as VTA light rail, BART, and Caltrain. There are also freeways and highways that are usually crowded during rush hour.
5. Region:The Bay Area has a coastal area on the west side and rest of it is inner valley. It is the only region in California that has more people migrating in than moving out. The San Francisco peninsula is also called “West Bay”.
