Source: The Huffington Post
Article Date: November 9, 2015 News type: Local State National World
Summary:
On November 2, 2015, democratic presidential candidate Bernie
Sanders had made a pledge to the United States that he would start working on
immigration reform within the first 100 days of his presidential term. He has
said to include relief for deportation that would go farther than the
procedures of Obama. Being the senator of Vermont, he is trying to grasp the
attention of the Latino communities because they esteem immigration with higher
priority and will be attracted the policies of Bernie Sanders. In addition, in
order to satisfy the concerns of others, he has promised, in addition, to not
only sustain, but also to build on the existing policies for undocumented
children and adults by Obama.
Personal Response:
Immigration
back then was very different than the condition of it now. Back then, the
immigrants that were arriving in the United States were not treated with
respect. Often, they were discriminated, and were not given the same
opportunity as other Americans. Other people were angry with immigrants,
especially the Chinese, for “stealing” their jobs. They were given unfair
working conditions, such as long hours and low wages. In addition, even the
government passed the Chinese Exclusion Act, making it very clear that they did
not want Chinese immigrants to come into the country. Nowadays, people who come
into the United States of America are treated with more respect. They are
indeed given the same opportunity as everyone else, and they receive fair
wages. As mentioned in the summary of my current event article, the government
is now trying to reform the process of immigration, in contrast to the late
1800s.
