A New Dog
Here is an essay that I have written about our family's new dog. Please do not plagiarize any part of my writing.
Have you ever had a dog, or
another pet that you enjoy having or spending time with? If so, I am certain
that you will love this amazing story about how our family got our first pet.
We had badly wanted a dog for years. We had tried very hard, but we were not
successful. We had visited the animal shelter multiple times, and we had
continuously looking out for a pet. No matter how hard we tried, it just seemed
impossible to get a pet. Unfortunately, the down side was that my brother had a
phobia of dogs. He would get scared ten feet away from a dog. In my mind, this
was the only factor that prohibited us from getting a pet.
One
day, my dad decided that we were going to try one last time. We went to the animal
shelter, and went to go visit dogs. There were all types almost in every size
and shape and color. Finally, we found one that interested us. It was a
full-grown dog, about 7 years old. His fur was mixed together in brown, black,
and white. His name was Pierre, and he actually didn't look too shabby. We
thought he was perfect, and we were considering adopting him. Unfortunately, my
brother's fear of dogs prohibited us from getting him. We drove back
disappointed, but what could we have done?
A
few more years passed, and we had almost lost hope for the idea of getting a
dog. One day, my dad saw an ad posted on Craigslist for a Terrier Mix. Her
original name was Fluffy, and she was cute. Her mom was a terrier, and her dad
was a Pomeranian. When my dad said this, I originally didn't believe him, since
he had been saying things like this many times. However, when I overheard him
say that he was going to visit this dog, I got excited. It was the beginning of
summer in 2015, and it would have been very fun to have a dog as a companion
for the summer. My dad warned me not to get my hopes up too high because he
said he might have come home empty-handed.
Despite
this, I was still pretty excited about having a puppy. Since we didn't have a
bed for the dog, we put a towel in my brother's laundry basket to serve as a
bed, until she had a proper one. While my dad was gone, I researched all the
foods that dogs could eat so that we knew what was appropriate for our dog to
eat, and what was not. I made a list, and my mom and I looked at it, so that we
knew what to do. We were obviously clueless, since we were first time dog
owners. I was getting restless, and couldn't wait for my dad to come back. I
decided to call him to find out. When he answered the phone, I asked him
whether he was coming back with the dog or not, and he said that he was. My mom
and I were extremely excited. We started thinking of names. We made a list, and
couldn't think of which one to choose. Then we heard the garage door open. My
dad was back. When he came out of the car and into the house, all of our eyes
fastened on our new dog.
My dad was holding her with one hand, and she was
looking at us. She was beautiful, and extremely small. Her fur was a light
brown color, and her eyes were black. Her fur was smooth and plentiful. We were
too scared to touch her, so we just lay her down in the living room, and
watched her sleep. My dad had also gotten a book about raising a puppy. I read
the book while lying down next to her. It was around lunch so I put my sweater
next to her so that she would think I was still there. But that was not the
case. Before I even got up, her eyes opened immediately. I realized that it was
useless trying to fool her. We were happy.
My
brother, Rohan, was the only one who hadn't seen her. He somehow knew that she
was there, and was avoiding her on purpose. If she was downstairs, he was
upstairs. Eventually, he got hungry, and came downstairs into the kitchen. By
then, we had all moved into the family room. When my brother saw the small
puppy, he got terrified. He let out a shriek. The dog got so scared; she
climbed on top of the only person she was acquainted with, my dad. My dad woke
up instantly, and he was also startled. At least we knew that he would ease
into it.
The
same day, we went shopping for our new dog, Jhabry. Jhabry literally means
fluffy in Hindi. We got a leash, toys, a bowl, and other supplies. It was
all-good, we had a dog. Our dream had come true. My brother was able to
comfortably sit next to the dog. We were happy. Our dog is now, comfortable
living with us at our house. We hope to keep her healthy, happy, and in a safe
environment for a long time. We want our dog to love us, and we want to love
our dog. It has only been a few months since we got her, and there have already
been so many adventures. This is the story of how we got our very first pet,
Jhabry.
