Short Story

It was a Saturday morning. The boy was sleeping peacefully. Slowly, the sunlight crept upon his blanket. Through a mess of dirty blond hair, his eyelids gave way to a pair of light blue eyes. He rubbed them and sat up on his bed. Squinting his eyes to block the sun he groped around and soon grasped a pair of black, thin-rimmed spectacles. With a stubborn insolence, he stood up and stomped down the stairs. No one would notice anyway, he thought. As he tottered along the toys obstructing his way, something didn’t feel right. The familiar sounds of his brothers shouting and playing were nowhere to be heard. “Hello!” he shouted. Only the slight reverberation of his light voice came back to his ears. He rushed to the screen door and yanked it open. At that very minute, he saw the mailman. “Mr. Jones!” the tween yelled. “Hey, Jack. How’s it going?” the thin man heartily replied. “Know where my folks are?” Jack uneasily inquired. “Believe they went that way,” Mr. Jones sa...

Pet Feeder

For my engineering project at my last year at Merryhill School, I am making a pet feeder. In order to make this, I will be controlling the circuit with a transistor, which acts as an electronic switch. Two ends of the transistor will be on either side of the circuit, and the third end will be connected to a GPIO pin of the Raspberry Pi. The power supply will come from four AA batteries (6V) and they will control the motor, which I have taken from a remote controlled car I had. The motor will turn the axle, which is just a skewer in the middle of two cardboard disks taped together. The jar's lid will be taken off, and the jar itself will be turned upside-down. The disks will block the food. When it comes time for the pet to have a meal, the axel of the feeder will turn 180 degrees, momentarily allowing food to pass, and will then quickly close. But how will it know when and for how long? Well, that will be controlled by a program written in Python on the Raspberry Pi. Currently, I d...

Ant-Man Story

WARNING: SPOILER ALERT! I watched Ant-Man with my dad on Christmas. I truly and honestly enjoyed all of it. It was not at all the way I had expected would be. It was unlike the serious mood of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It was actually full of humor. Ant-Man was about transformation of a man named Scott. He had just gotten out of jail. He was an electrical engineer, and he was also a thief. He, along with his comical men, were going to rob the house of someone named named Dr. Pym. They broke through it and found a suit. Disappointed, they went back to their apartment building. Little did they know that Dr. Pym let them take the suit. Scott put the suit on in the bathroom, and found that it could make him extremely small, the size of an ant. However, the situation really escalated for him when his friend decided to take a shower at the same time. Things look and sound very different when you are an ant. Scared, he decided to return the suit to Dr. Pym's house. Unfortunate...

My Christmas

My Christmas of 2015 was awesome! Although it wasn't like the traditional Christmas I had when I was little in which I woke up to find innumerable gifts from Santa, it was unique. Waking up, I felt an object under my pillow in the Home Office. At first, I thought that somehow, the remote controlled car I was taking apart for my pet feeder had somehow gotten onto the bed. But, when I looked at it, I realized it wasn't. Instead, I saw a brand new watch in its case. It was the exact same watch that I had earlier, but that one was broken. The straps on either side of it had fallen when I bumped into someone during P.E. As I saw my parents in their bedroom, I told them to both say my thanks to Santa. Later that morning, my dad and I watched Ant-Man, which we both absolutely enjoyed. In the afternoon, my mom made samosas, while we watched Chupke Se. The samosas and the movie were both great. The movie was about three hours, but we did not watch all of it. My parents lost interest ...

Dream House Project

Image
In Geometry class, my group and I have completed the first part of the Dream House Project. It is a fun project. We were given $1,000,000 to buy a piece of land, and design a dream house. With continuous support each other, our group members have not only designed the floor plan of our house, but we have also calculated the cost of all the building materials that would be necessary to build the house. Our "house" is located at a 5,000 sq. foot lot in Richmond, California. Here is a copy of a five-page paper written by my friend which goes into detail about our house. This is not my work at all, but is solely written by him. I have not mentioned his name for privacy. Over the course of human history, technology has changed and our lifestyle has evolved. However, one of the things that have remained constant is our ingenuity, which we have employed to build advanced shelters known as houses. Nowadays, with the advent of currency and the real estate industry, most people ha...

What does it mean to be human?

Here is the essay that I have submitted to the Milpitas Library Essay Contest. I was one of the 10 lucky contestants in the seventh and eighth grade that won. I received a gift card from amazon worth $100! Please do not plagiarize any part of my writing.         What does it mean to be human? Over the course of several million years, humans have evolved in many different ways, each for the eventual benefit of mankind. As climates change and as other animals adapt, mankind has also made additions to its lifestyle. Through natural selection, only the fittest of animals have survived. Advantageous features of humans have caused humans to stay at the top of the food chain. It is not uncommon for individuals to exhibit characteristics that we consider normal, such as laughter, weeping, and understanding. But, has it always been this way? Have we always felt compelled to aid those who are in need?  ...
